NIBA shares 2021.2 convention highlights

The National Insurance Brokers Association's (NIBA) 2021.2 Convention has come to an end, with the final session held in Sydney on February 21. Whether you joined the sessions or not, the peak body has shared some takeaways from all five sessions.

NIBA's five-day hybrid convention, which was supposed to take place from September to October 2021, was instead held over three weeks from February 08 to 21 in Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, and Sydney in response to the COVID-19 situation in Australia. This year's theme was Professionalism + Resilience = Opportunity to highlight brokers' chance to reinforce their role as valued partners to insurers and clients in a dynamic landscape.

The event kicked off in Melbourne, with the first session MCed by public speaking coach Jordana Borensztajn. It focused on the future of the Australian financial services regulation, with Hunt & Hunt Lawyers principal David Thompson predicting businesses' key challenges over the coming months in establishing effective COVID-19 working practices.

Meanwhile, Mark Carter, an experienced global learning and development pro at Igniting Human Potential, presented an immersive, cinematic experience that served as a pep talk to the session's participants by underlining insurance professionals' value and what they can bring to the industry, as well as elements that clients value.

The last session was held in Sydney and MCed by Andrew Klein, and it focused on personal advice versus general advice. Radford Lawyers principal solicitor Mark Radford updated the participants on two industry reviews currently or scheduled to take place this year:

NIBA 2021.2 Convention's hybrid setup enabled participants to interact face-to-face and attend a marketplace in their home state for one session while accessing the other sessions virtually.

Towards the end of the session, NIBA CEO Phil Kewin thanked the speakers who took part in the convention, as well as the NIBA board and staff and sponsors for helping to bring the hybrid event to life.

“We always knew the broker community wanted an opportunity to get back together. We had to come back to some sort of normality at some stage, and that's why I'm proud that we've been able to deliver an event that our members, sponsors, and exhibitors have supported and deserve. The calibre of the speakers has been of the highest quality,” Kewin said.
